Resilience as a challenge for society: a dialogue between Hamburg and Helsinki
Source: AHK Finnland

How can resilience be successfully fostered as a task for society as a whole?

A delegation from Hamburg explored this issue during its four-day visit to the Helsinki metropolitan area.

The focus was on exchanges with leading Finnish institutions and companies, including the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, IQM Finland, Hybrid CoE, Elisa, Wärtsilä, WithSecure, ICEYE and Temet Finland, with a session on civil protection held at the Finlandia Congress Hall. The programme was complemented by round-table discussions with guests from the worlds of business, research and politics.

The delegation was particularly impressed by the way in which resilience is understood and practised in Finland as a comprehensive, society-wide endeavour. The state, the business sector, the research community and the general public work closely together to tackle challenges jointly. This close collaboration between all stakeholders is regarded as a key factor in achieving sustainable security and crisis resilience. The exchange provided a wide range of insights into innovative approaches and promotes the transfer of knowledge between regions.

The following organisations were involved in the initiative: the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Bremen Chamber of Commerce – IHK for Bremen and Bremerhaven, IHK Nord e.V., IHK Elbe-Weser, the German Armed Forces Command and Staff College, SevenCs GmbH, Flotte Hamburg GmbH & Co. KG, NAEXT GmbH and Der Wirtschaftsverein e.V. für den Hamburger Süden.
