The programme for the free education week on climate, sustainability and social change aimed at schools in Hamburg is now available in printed form and as a download.
Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant.2020 will take place from 21 to 25.09.2020 at HafenCity Hamburg. Recommended by Hamburg’s education ministry, funded by the environment ministry and HafenCity Hamburg GmbH and running under the banner of Climate Ambassadors – Klimabotschafter e.V., it is organised by Tutech.
Will coming generations talk about this time as “before corona” and “after corona” or “before the climate wave” and “after the climate wave”?
The pandemic we are calling “corona” has shown clearly how vulnerable and fragile our society is, but perhaps the coronavirus crisis is changing how we see the climate crisis. “We still have the chance to cope with the consequences and to take mitigating steps that are in every case a lot less costly than the results of a climate wave breaking over us,” says Frank Böttcher in his foreword to the Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant.2020 programme. He warns that the developments demand rapid action from us: “The climate and innovation now need to be considered together, gaps in our knowledge need to be plugged and we have to make progress with communicating a deeper understanding. Wetter.Wasser.Waterkant.2020 is an outstanding example of this in Europe and one that I am happy to promote once again this year.”
The programme of events has attracted support from a YouTube celebrity, Jacob Beautemps:

All the elements of the education programme are free of charge and quality controlled. Both the promoter of the event and the City of Hamburg attach great value to education events being independent and, of course, free of advertising. Teachers in Hamburg have the opportunity to book elements and thus create an interesting project day or week with workshops, lectures and excursions, which would otherwise be unavailable locally or at the moment.
Numerous workshops, excursions and talks have already run similarly in previous years, while new elements have been added. A thematic emphasis this year is on shaping the necessary socio-ecological transformation of our society. There are some exciting suggestions on this, e.g. by the Wuppertal Institute (ecoroutine concept), by the FUTUR ZWEI foundation, by the activist Tobi Rosswog, and by Niko Paech, a pioneer in exploring the post-growth economy. All of the elements are suitable for all attainment levels. In many cases, however, specific preparation is advisable – this is indicated in the programme where appropriate. Elements for year 13 are also suitable for vocational colleges.
Have you found something suitable in the programme? That’s great. Registration is essential for participation as a school class or a project group. Bookings are generally allocated in the order in which registrations are received. We also try to make it possible for as many different school classes as possible to participate. We look forward to receiving your telephone enquiries. You don’t have to wait till registration begins to get in touch. Due to possible adjustments as a result of the coronavirus, changes in all areas are possible.
