Opportunities for the circular economy in 14 economic sectors

EU PROJECT UP2CIRC PROVIDES SECTOR CATALOGUES ON THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY FOR 14 BRANCHES OF INDUSTRY

As part of the EU Up2Circ project, the project partners have developed 14 catalogues for the economic ecosystems defined by the EU over the past few months. The concept of the circular economy takes centre stage.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of various economic sectors and drive innovation, job creation and economic growth. The principles of the circular economy are becoming increasingly important for the sustainable development of SMEs.

This paradigm shift leads away from the traditional linear “take-produce-dispose” model towards a regenerative system that promotes reuse and the reduction of waste.

For SMEs, adopting the principles of the circular economy brings many benefits. It encourages innovation, improves resource efficiency, reduces production costs, minimises environmental impact and opens up new market opportunities. By utilising these strategies, SMEs can turn challenges such as resource scarcity and waste generation into opportunities for growth and resilience.

Each of these catalogues will be expanded over the coming years. Already, each catalogue contains, among other things, a brief overview of the relevant legislation in the business sector, circular economy opportunities, as well as examples of best practices, business models and funding opportunities.

All catalogues are available for free download on the project website
